Running with your dog gives your the opportunity to just enjoy the run. Ignore pacing, and times, and run without control, your dog doesn’t.

Mountain training

We were lucky enough on Saturday to have perfect weather. A bright morning, with no rain and a gentle breeze. Conditions were perfect for an 18miler from Hen, to Rostrevor and back, following the southernmost part of the Mourne Way. Good training for the Mourne Ultra. The next morning was a follow on with 6 miles done on already tired legs.

Only 4 weeks to the excellent Mourne Way Marathon - including the double marathon ‘ultra’, single marathon, 10km, and 5km all through the beautifully rugged Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland.

Here’s a shaky video filmed last year on my phone:

Tollymore – 2nd Hill and Dale in Series

The rain held off last night, though a warm up was needed as the air felt damp and there was a bit of a chill. This was soon forgotten as the whistle was blown and the pace furious for the first mile and a half. The climbs were brutal, but the long descents were bliss - it was a good opportunity to let yourself go and get some speed up and the lungs to recover. Another great race in the series.
